Ambassador: Azerbaijan - important economic partner of Latvia in South Caucasus

Azerbaijan is an important economic partner of Latvia in the South Caucasus, Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Edgars Skuja said at an event dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia.

Report informs that, according to him, the two countries have maintained friendly relations for many years. Trade turnover between the countries has increased significantly over the past two years.

"Latvia, as a NATO and EU member country, continues to work to expand its partnership with Azerbaijan," he said.

The ambassador also noted the increase in the number of Azerbaijani students receiving education in Latvia.

In turn, Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov emphasized that relations between the two countries are based on mutual trust, understanding and respect.

"During the official visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Latvia in 2017, a 'Joint Declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Latvia' was signed, raising our relations to the level of strategic partnership," he recalled.

According to Samir Sharifov, mutual visits between the two countries, official and working meetings at the level of heads of state are of great importance for strengthening relations.

"We believe that thanks to our joint efforts, the Azerbaijani-Latvian friendship and strategic partnership will continue to strengthen in the coming years for the benefit of our countries and peoples," Sharifov emphasized.
