Agil Shirinov: Azerbaijan has never had anti-Semitism

Azerbaijan has never had anti-Semitism, Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology Agil Shirinov said at an international conference dedicated to the heritage of Jews in the Caucasus, Report informs.

He noted that Azerbaijan has always taken seriously the issue of ensuring the safety of Jews.

“The village of Krasnaya Sloboda, located in Guba, is another confirmation of this. Though the majority of population of Azerbaijan practices Islam, this doesn’t prevent Muslims and Jews from living in peace,” he said.

Shirinov stressed that it is also necessary to ensure Azerbaijan’s tolerant policy at the academic level: “For example, we have a masters program in the university called ‘History of Religions’, where the history of Judaism is taught in Hebrew,” he added.
