Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has visited the training camp of the national football team, which will travel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and wished the players success.
Report informs via SNNTV, that Pezeshkian said: "We pray that you will return with dignity. Play with all your strength on the field for Iran's glory."
Iran's participation in the 2026 World Cup came into question after the US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026, as the tournament will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Iran will face Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand in Group G. The group's matches are scheduled to be held in the US.
For this reason, discussions were held on holding Iran's matches in Mexico. However, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said FIFA had decided not to move Iran's group-stage matches from the US to Mexico.
On April 30, FIFA President Gianni Infantino also said Iran's matches would take place in the US.
A total of 48 teams will participate in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held from June 11 to July 19 this year.
