FIFA ratifies World Cup expansion

Baku. 10 January. REPORT.AZ/ FIFA ratified to alter the format of the most popular sporting event by expanding the World Cup to 48 teams from 32.
Report informs, FIFA’s ruling council adopted a decision at a meeting in Zurich, Switzerland. The change will be implemented for 2026 tournament.
According to decision, 48 teams will fight in 16 groups of three. A detailed explanation will be discussed at the meeting.
Notably, the council members unanimously voted for the increase.
