Ukraine asks IMF for $5billion

Ukraine is asking the International Monetary Fund for $5 billion a month for the functioning of the national economy in the coming quarter, Report informs citing RIA Novosti that Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, has said.

“We are working very closely with the Treasury Department on their estimates of what is needed to keep the economy functioning over the next three months. They have stated a figure of 5 billion per month, which is unclear. But we do not think this is beyond the likely needs of the country," she said at a press conference in Washington.

Georgieva added that the amount requested does not take into account Ukraine's need to rebuild its devastated economy, which she said, would require "colossal" funds.
