Investor funds are flowing from Chinese exchanges to shares of US companies, which now account for almost half of the capital on the planet’s stock market. This is the highest figure in about the last 20 years, according to the Nikkei newspaper, Report informs referring to TASS.
As of February 2, the combined value of US stocks was worth $51 trillion, according to calculations by Tokyo-based research firm QUICK. It increased by $1.4 trillion compared to data on the last day of trading in 2023. This is 48.1% of all funds currently present on global stock markets - the highest figure since September 2003.
At the same time, since the beginning of this year, China's stock exchanges, including Hong Kong, have lost $1.7 trillion. The country's stock market now accounts for approximately 10% of the funds present on the planet's exchanges. That's nearly half the rate it was at its peak in June 2015, according to Nikkei data. According to the newspaper, investors are losing hope for the rapid growth of the Chinese economy and are showing growing interest not only in the US, but also in the stock markets of Japan and India.
Of the 500 companies with the highest capitalization in the world, 236 are now in the US. Their number has increased by 15% compared to the situation three years ago. China now accounts for 35 corporations on this list. This is 60% less than three years ago.
