IMF: Azerbaijan's current account surplus to exceed $6B in 2025

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in 2025, the current account surplus of Azerbaijan's balance of payments will amount to $6.1 billion (7.8% of GDP), Report informs.

In 2026, the current account surplus will decrease to $3.4 billion (4.1% of GDP). A current account deficit of $4.2 billion (4.2% of GDP) is projected by the end of 2030. In 2024, the country's current account surplus amounted to $4.7 billion, which is equal to 6.3% of GDP.

The World Bank forecasts Azerbaijan's current account surplus at 11.6% of GDP in 2025. In the following years, the bank expects this indicator to decrease: in 2026 to 5.4% of GDP, in 2027 to 3.8% of GDP, in 2028 to 3.6% of GDP, and in 2029 to 3.4% of GDP.

According to the forecasts of the Azerbaijani government, the current account surplus in 2025 is expected to be at the level of 5.6% of GDP. In 2025-2028, taking into account the forecasts for oil and gas production, the current account surplus will be about 3% of GDP per year.

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan expects a current account surplus of $4 billion by the end of 2025 (in January it predicted $5.5 billion), and in 2026 - $3.5 billion.
