Forty percent of the CEOs from the top 10 banks in Kazakhstan are women, CEO of Kazakhstan's Halyk Bank Umut Shayakhmetova said at the SHE Congress 2025 held in Baku Thursday, Report informs.
According to Shayakhmetova, although the areas where women are most represented are mainly in lower ranks, there has been significant progress in the banking and financial sector in recent years:
"Finance, banking, and mining have been male-dominated industries for many years. But that has begun to change in the last 10-15, maybe 15-20 years. For example, today in Kazakhstan, the regulatory body that oversees financial markets is headed by a woman. Forty percent of the CEOs of the top 10 banks in our country are women, while 60-70% of those working in lower-level positions in the banking sector are women."
Shayakhmetova also positively assessed the growing role of women in the technology sector:
"Another thing that makes me happy is the increase in the number of women working in IT. At the same time, women are also actively participating in areas such as artificial intelligence and data analytics. These areas were previously considered to be dominated by male engineers. I believe that today all horizons are open for women and the opportunities are boundless."
