Greece is the leader among EU countries in terms of GDP per capita growth, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at a government meeting, Report informs.

“In 2023, GDP per capita showed the largest growth among the 27 countries of the European Union. Obviously, we are not yet where we want to be, because we are bearing the burden of a 10-year crisis. But no one can doubt that the general course of the economy and the rate of income growth is moving in the right direction,” the prime minister said.

The Ministry of National Economy and Finance, citing data from the European Commission, said the day before that Greece is the champion of Europe in terms of growth of real GDP per capita. In Greece, it increased by 2.5%, from €18,690 in 2022 to €19,150 in 2023. That same year, real per capita income in the EU stagnated, and in fact, fell slightly.

At the same time, according to Eurostat, Greece is in penultimate place in the European Union in terms of GDP per capita, ahead only of Bulgaria. In Greece, this figure is 33% lower than the European average, in Bulgaria – 36%.
