Euro rises in price against dollar

The euro exchange rate on February 25 morning is growing against the US dollar, Report informs.

The euro exchange rate against the dollar rose to $1.1218 per euro from the previous close of $1.1191, the dollar against the yen fell to 115.22 yen per dollar from 115.52 yen.

The dollar index (the exchange rate against a basket of currencies of six countries - the main US trading partners) decreased by 0.29%, to 96.82 points.

The euro recovers February 24 losses, when it fell more than 1% against the dollar due to global risk aversion amid escalating geopolitical tensions. On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided on a special military operation to demilitarize Ukraine, after which the US, EU and several other countries imposed sanctions on major Russian banks and organizations.

The yen is also strengthening against the dollar. Elliott Wave analyst Murray Gunn, quoted by the Wall Street Journal, noted that the Japanese currency, like the dollar, acts as a "safe haven", so the complication of the geopolitical situation will push it to growth.

Later, traders will evaluate the statistics. Before the opening of trading in Europe, the final estimate of GDP growth in France will be known, which is expected to be 0.7% in quarterly terms, and 5.4% in annual terms.
