EIB reveals exposure volume in Azerbaijan

Total EIB exposure in Azerbaijan is almost €80 million, Report informs referring to the bank.

"In December 2024, EIB Global signed a €43 million loan agreement to develop digital infrastructure for government services. The loan – EIB Global’s first to Azerbaijan’s public sector – is going to state-owned enterprise AzInTelecom LLC, which will use the financing to build two new state-of-the-art data centers. The project aims to make public information and services faster, more secure and more accessible. The planned data centers will provide cloud services.

In addition, the EIB has completed a ten-month assignment to help Azerbaijan improve railway safety and reliability.

Beyond backing Azerbaijan’s green transition, last year the EIB signed a €10 million loan agreement with Bank Respublika to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the country. The loan, which is fully disbursed, promotes financial inclusion by providing loans to small businesses on preferential terms, with the option of disbursal in local currency, boosting investment, growth and employment. We are in active dialogue with the relevant stakeholders to explore further areas of cooperation in line with EU policies in the country," the bank noted.

The EIB is the European Union’s long-term financing institution, owned by its member states. It provides long-term loans for sound investment projects that contribute to the achievement of EU policy objectives.

The bank’s key areas of support include infrastructure, innovation, climate and environment, and SME development. EIB Global is the EIB Group’s dedicated unit for international partnerships and sustainable development financing. It contributes to the implementation of the EU’s three key priorities: the European Green Deal, the Global Gateway Initiative, and job creation, and supports sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

EIB Global’s priorities in Azerbaijan include energy diversification.
