China to impose nearly 76% tariff on Canola imports from Canada starting August 14

Chinese authorities will impose a temporary tariff of 75.8% on imports of canola seeds (a variety of rapeseed) from Canada starting August 14.

According to Report, citing Interfax and Xinhua News Agency, the decision follows an anti-dumping investigation launched in September 2024.

The Ministry of Commerce preliminarily concluded that imports of rapeseed from Canada were being dumped, causing material damage to the domestic rapeseed industry, and that there is a causal link between the dumping and the actual losses. As a result, it was decided to introduce temporary anti-dumping measures in the form of security deposits.

China is the world’s largest importer of canola and the main buyer of the crop from Canada. In 2024, Canada supplied canola to China worth around $3.6 billion.
