The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is taking real steps to reduce methane emissions, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Dmitry Mariyasin stated during Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.
"By increasing the energy efficiency of company operations, it is possible not only to achieve better financial results but also to deliver a real positive impact on the environment. Resilience to energy supply disruptions is also part of the energy conservation concept. We recognize the importance of a gradual transition away from fossil fuels, especially for companies engaged in oil, gas, and coal extraction. At the same time, we understand that fossil fuels will not disappear overnight. In this context, reducing methane emissions can be one of the quickest achievable results," Mariyasin emphasized.

"We welcome this. We call for intensifying work in this direction and helping us better utilize this opportunity for business," he added.
