There is no SOCAR infrastructure in the volcanic eruption area on the Dashli Island in the Caspian Sea, Farhad Ibadov, head of the Department of Geology and Geophysics of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), told Report.
He said that no drilling work was carried out in that area.
“All exploratory wells, where drilling was carried out, are closed. These wells are constantly monitored. Information in the press that these wells are allegedly open is absolutely unfounded,” Ibadov said.
In connection with the fire observed July 4 in the Caspian Sea, SOCAR said that all the company’s offshore platforms and industrial facilities continue to operate normally. On the island, located in the sea between the village of Alat and the town of Neftchala, about 30 kilometers from the shore, there was a natural burning of a mud volcano.
According to the observations, the flame was fading, and there is no infrastructure associated with the oil industry.
As a result of the eruption of mud volcanoes associated with oil and gas fields, methane and other hot gas emissions were also observed.
