The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) together with consultants is conducting diagnostics of an area of 1,300 hectares of contaminated lands for their further cleaning, SOCAR Vice President Afgan Isayev said.
Report informs that during the event titled "Increasing ambitions and stimulating activities: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum", Isayev said the cleanup of contaminated soils, a legacy of the Soviet era, will be carried out in three stages.
As part of the diagnostics, we will determine the impurities present in these soils. A number of institutes are helping us. In addition, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is providing support as part of a technical assistance project," Isayev said.
