Moldova thanks Azerbaijan for support in energy co-op

Moldova has expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for support in energy cooperation, state secretary for decarbonization of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, Carolina Novac, said during the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Forum, as quoted by Report.

"I would like to sincerely thank Romania for its outstanding support - in the supply of electricity and gas, and also express my deep gratitude to Azerbaijan. As the vice president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) noted yesterday, a friend in need is a friend indeed. Azerbaijan has provided Moldova with significant assistance in the field of energy cooperation, for which we are sincerely grateful," said Novac.

According to her, Moldova is undergoing a large-scale transformation in the energy sector.

"We do not have our own gas, oil or coal resources. In recent years, we have faced serious energy crises. Previously, the country was completely dependent on one source of gas, which came via a single route - from east to west or south," she noted.

Novac emphasized the important role of the Southern Gas Corridor not only in ensuring supplies, but also in strengthening international cooperation: "The Southern Gas Corridor plays a strategic role not only from an energy point of view, but also as a project that promotes peace, stability and prosperity in the region. This also applies to the Trans-Balkan pipeline - such initiatives unite states and strengthen the sustainability of energy systems."

The state secretary also noted that Moldova has completed the first competition for projects in the field of renewable energy sources and the winners will be announced soon.

"We are preparing the second competition for projects in the field of renewable energy and invite you to take part in it. It will be hybrid - with an emphasis on wind energy and battery storage systems," said Novac.
