Masdar ready to participate in projects to export green energy from Azerbaijan

Masdar (UAE) plans to begin construction of a 240 MW wind farm in Azerbaijan by the end of the year, Maryam Rashed Al Mazrouei, head of Business Development and Investments (CIS) at Masdar, said during the 30th Anniversary Baku Energy Forum.

Report quotes her as saying Azerbaijan remains one of the priority and strategic markets for Masdar in the field of renewable energy.

"Our project to build a 240 megawatt wind farm is at an advanced stage of preparation. We expect to begin its construction by the end of this year," she said.

Al Mazrouei also noted the progress in the implementation of the company's solar power plant construction projects in Azerbaijan.

"Our solar projects in the country are already at the construction stage. We hope to start generating within the next year," she stressed.

According to her, Masdar actively supports regional initiatives related to the export of green energy: "We fully support the aspirations of Azerbaijan and the countries of the region to export renewable electricity to neighboring countries and Europe. Masdar is ready to participate in the development and implementation of such projects aimed at the export of green energy, the company representative added.

Al Mazrouei also reminded that last year Masdar signed a memorandum of understanding with ACWA Power and SOCAR on a joint study of the potential of offshore wind energy in the Caspian Sea.

"Although this project is still at an early stage, we approach it with complete seriousness and hope to move on to practical implementation in the near future. Azerbaijan remains a key area for Masdar," she added.
