About 21.5 billion cubic meters of gas have already been transported to Europe with the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), 18 bcm of which were transported to Italty, TAP's Managing Director Luca Schieppati said in his speech at the TopUtility2023 conference, Report informs, citing TAP.
"TAP helps to strengthen the reliability of gas supply to Italy and increase the market's liquidity."
The managing director said that the pipeline, together with other pipelines, which transport liquefied natural gas (LNG), is eliminating the crisis today: "At the same time, we must keep in mind the next winter."
Schieppati recalled that thanks to the fulfillment of transport obligations under long-term contracts signed by TAP and the maximization of short-term transport opportunities, the gas transported via this pipeline constituted more than 15% of Italy's consumption in 2022 alone: "Italy's gas supply diversification strategy includes full political support for increasing transport from the Southern Gas Corridor by doubling TAP's capacity."
He stressed that in this challenging scenario, the support of the European Union Commission and national governments is of strategic importance in developing the necessary regulatory framework and financial support to ensure the continuous expansion of TAP.
