The capacity of the terminal for receiving liquefied natural gas in Rotterdam Gate LNG can be expanded from 16 to 20 billion cubic meters per year, according to the bunkering operator Vopak, which is a participant in the project, Report informs referring to Interfax.

The procedure for studying demand (Open Season) for the capacity of an additional, fourth tank as part of the terminal has recently been completed. The final investment decision on this project is planned to be made by September this year.

Vopak also said it intends to buy 50% of EemsEnergyTerminal BV, a newly opened floating terminal in Eemshaven, from national pipeline operator Gasunie. The transaction is scheduled to close no later than October 1, 2023. This facility has been operating since September 15, 2022 and has a regasification capacity of 8 billion cubic meters per year. Partners will explore the possibility of further increasing capacity.

Due to the delay in the commissioning of the new floating LNG terminal project in Hong Kong and the decline in its commercial attractiveness, Vopak decided not to buy a 49.99 percent stake in it from MOL. However, Vopak notes that it will continue to be involved in the terminal’s commissioning process and will continue to provide support as needed.
