Kazakhstan сonfirms 2025 export forecast of 1.7 million tons of oil via BTC pipeline

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy has confirmed plans to export 1.7 million tons of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in 2025.

According to Report’s Kazakhstan bureau, Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov noted that about 800,000 tons were transported via BTC in the first six months of the year.

“Work is ongoing; this is one of our key alternative routes. While around 1.4 million tons were exported through this route in 2024, in 2025 we plan to transport about 1.7 million tons,” he added.

It should be noted that in January this year, the Energy Ministry projected 1.5 million tons of Kazakh oil exports via BTC for 2025. However, in February, Kurmangazy Iskaziyev, Deputy Chairman of KazMunayGas, stated that the figure had been increased to 1.7 million tons.

In March 2024, KMG and SOCAR signed an agreement to gradually increase oil transit through Azerbaijan, aiming to raise volumes to 2.2 million tons per year.

In 2023, about 1.1 million tons of Kazakh oil were shipped from the Aktau port toward Azerbaijan for further export via BTC, and in 2024, this figure rose to 1.4 million tons.

In 2022, KMG and SOCAR signed a general agreement on the transit of Kazakh oil. In March 2023, a test shipment of 7,000 tons of oil from the Kashagan field was carried out through Azerbaijan.
