Jabbarov: Azerbaijan-Syria oil & gas deal to drive strategic projects

The start of natural gas supply from Azerbaijan to Syria is a significant and historic event in the history of cooperation between the countries, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said at the opening ceremony of the Türkiye-Syria gas pipeline, Report informs.

"This significant step is the result of the strong political will of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Qatar and Syria, their commitment to sustainable peace in the region, and joint efforts aimed at strengthening economic ties. The importance of cooperation in the energy sector was especially emphasized during the meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Syria in Antalya on April 11 this year, as well as during the talks held within the framework of the state visit (of the Syrian president) to Azerbaijan on July 12, and the importance of Azerbaijan's support to Syria in this area was noted," the minister said.

According to him, against the background of serious difficulties faced by Syria in the energy sector, the export of Azerbaijani gas to this country aims to make an important contribution to energy security: "For this very reason, appropriate instructions were given by the top leadership for the implementation of the project in a short time, and urgent measures were taken.

Türkiye's support played a decisive role in the successful implementation of the project. The strategic cooperation that exists between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in all areas, including energy, has made a significant contribution to this project. As two brotherly countries, we continue our joint efforts towards the restoration and development of Syria."

Jabbarov stated that the delivery of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria through the territory of Türkiye is not only a new stage in Azerbaijan's energy export history but also lays the foundation for an energy bridge between the South Caucasus and the Middle East.

"In the initial stage, the annual volume of gas to be supplied to Syria is planned to be up to 1.2 billion cubic meters. We believe that this supply will play a significant role in the restoration of the economy in Syria and in improving the social welfare of the population.

Today's significant event marks the beginning of a new stage of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Syria in the oil and gas sector. We are confident that this partnership will not only promote mutual economic development but also create a solid foundation for strengthening regional energy security, as well as the implementation of joint investment and strategic infrastructure projects."
