Azerbaijan continues to take consistent and purposeful steps to strengthen regional energy security and create sustainable supply systems.
In this regard, the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline project is of particular importance. The project is another result of the successful energy policy implemented under the initiative and leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
The construction of this pipeline was planned in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in 2020. The construction work was financed from the state budget of Azerbaijan. The project is managed and operated by SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations LLC (SOCAR MGO), a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
The total length of the pipeline is 97.5 km. Of this, 80 km is located in Türkiye, and 17.5 km is in Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic).
The project aims to provide Nakhchivan with stable and sustainable gas. Through this pipeline, it is intended to supply the autonomous republic for the first time with Azerbaijani gas directly, without depending on foreign energy exchange. This is an important step both in terms of the region's energy security and in terms of more efficient and extensive use of Azerbaijan's energy resources.
Since December 24, 2024, the Igdir-Nakhchivan pipeline has been fully ready for gas transportation. For this, all relevant regulatory work has been carried out on the pipeline and its associated station, and the infrastructure has been brought to readiness.
The Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is also another practical manifestation of the strategic energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. The project contributes to the expansion of a reliable partnership between the two countries in the energy sector.
The Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is a successful continuation of Azerbaijan's long-term strategy aimed at energy security. This project, implemented as a result of President Ilham Aliyev's far-sighted and purposeful policy, both strengthens the stability of the region's energy supply and further strengthens Azerbaijan's position as a regional energy center.
