Dubravka Djedovic: Serbia can strengthen energy security with increased gas supplies from Azerbaijan this winter

Serbia will be able to count on secure supplies of one million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan this coming winter, which will strengthen the country's energy security, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic said during negotiations with Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov in Belgrade, Report informs referring to Serbia's Ministry of Mining and Energy.

"Relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan have reached the level of strategic cooperation thanks to the efforts of Presidents Aleksandar Vučić and Ilham Aliyev. Along with political cooperation, the two countries have significantly improved economic cooperation, in which energy is one of the key sectors," Djedovic noted.

Djedovic reminded that last year in Baku, agreements on cooperation were signed between the relevant ministries and gas companies of the two countries on annual supplies to Serbia from Azerbaijan of up to 400 million cubic meters of gas until 2026.

"The agreements signed [on September 26, 2024] between Srbijagas and SOCAR will allow strengthening Serbia's energy security in the coming winter, as we will be able to confidently count on supplies of one million cubic meters of gas per day from Azerbaijan from November 1 to March 31," said Djedovic.

According to Djedovic, the memorandum of understanding signed the day before between the energy ministries of the two countries will in turn strengthen cooperation between Baku and Belgrade in the field of green energy.

"This document opens up wide opportunities for cooperation within the energy transition, including joint investments in green energy, the introduction of new technologies, etc. Thus, energy cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan is acquiring a comprehensive and strategic character, making a significant contribution to the improvement of our bilateral relations," said Djedovic.
