BP vice president: Work underway to increase Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe to 14BCM from 2026

Operators of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) have jointly increased the annual volume of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe to approximately 12 billion cubic meters.

The work is underway to increase the supply volume to 14 billion cubic meters by 2026, BP Vice President for projects in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, the Middle East, and North Africa, Matt Kirkham, said at the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that Shah Deniz continues to ensure safe and efficient gas production, maintaining Azerbaijan's commitment to European and regional markets: "Last year, about 28 billion cubic meters of gas were produced at the field, exceeding planned indicators. Shah Deniz remains BP's largest gas production enterprise. Its capacity allows for the extraction and processing of about 79 million standard cubic meters of gas per day."

Kirkham added that in 2024, over 12 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered to Europe via the SGC.

"The work continues on expanding the TAP pipeline. We aim to increase the total export capacity to Europe to approximately 14 billion cubic meters by 2026. We are also working on improving the safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability of the Shah Deniz field," he said.

The vice president added that as of October last year, all five underwater flanks at Shah Deniz were put into operation: "In the coming years, we plan to commission six more production wells. All this will allow us to continue fulfilling our obligations to the markets."
