BP to decommission generators on Shah Deniz Alfa platform in fall

BP, the operator of the Shah Deniz field, plans to completely decommission the electricity generators on the Shah Deniz Alfa (SDA) platform in the third quarter of 2024, BP Azerbaijan spokesperson Tamam Bayatli said, Report informs.

Bayatli recalled that electricity on the SDA offshore platform is produced by 5 fossil fuel generators: “The company already announced in 2022 that it will abandon their use from 2024 and the SDA platform will be supplied with electricity from Shah Deniz Bravo (SDB) platform.”

“Work on this project has not yet been completed. Each of the 5 generators on the SDA platform, both gas and diesel, is still operating, but will soon be decommissioned. We expect this to be done by the end of the third quarter of 2024 - around September,” she said.

According to Bayatli, the implementation of the project will significantly improve the energy supply and efficiency of the SDA platform, as well as reduce emissions into the atmosphere.
