Azerbaijan's polyethylene exports up by 33%

From January through November 2023, Azerbaijan exported 139,418.49 tons of polyethylene in primary forms for over $144.96 million, Report informs, citing the country's State Customs Committee

These figures are 32.6% and 10.03% more than the same period of January-September 2021, respectively.

In January-November 2023, the share of polyethylene in Azerbaijan's non-oil sector exports was 4.78%. Meanwhile, the percentage of polyethylene in primary forms in the country's total exports was 0.46%.

In the eleven months of 2023, Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with foreign countries in the amount of $47.326 billion. Of the nine-month foreign trade turnover, $31.513 billion accounted for exports, and $15.813 billion for imports.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a Polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a High-Density Polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was commissioned on July 18, 2018, with the participation of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene started on October 5, 2018.
