AREA: User selection phase begins for offshore renewable projects

Azerbaijan is moving to the second phase of renewable energy development across a 711.4 km² offshore area in the Caspian Sea, Javid Abdullayev, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), told Report.

Abdullayev explained that the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers has designated this offshore zone for renewable energy projects: "By law, these processes must be carried out step by step. We can now move to the second phase – selecting users for these renewable energy areas. Several companies are actively conducting both desktop studies and on‑site measurements."

He noted that offshore wind power plants are highly complex projects: "Unlike onshore projects, offshore work does not progress quickly and requires extensive effort. Nevertheless, we expect to achieve concrete results here soon."
