She noted that at the opening of the plenary session the previous evening, the discussions reached a deadlock, and consensus was reached only after the current presidency of Azerbaijan invited to hold consultations with the parties.
"Following discussions with the parties, my co-chair Adonia Ayebare and I invited the COP29 presidency to assist us in holding consultations with the parties," Gardiner said.
COP29 chief negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev informed the audience on the agreements reached.
"Since this morning, at the invitation of the SB62 Chairs, Azerbaijan, as the COP29 Presidency, has held extensive consultations with the parties to help overcome the impasse in the discussions. We are grateful to all delegations for their constructive engagement and the mutual concessions they made, which helped us find consensus," he said, reading out all the agreements reached.
In particular, the Saudi Arabian delegation, on behalf of its supporters, expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for holding these consultations, which allowed for progress in adopting the agenda for the Bonn meetings. After that, the meeting participants began approving the articles of the agenda for the June meetings, which was eventually adopted.
