The Earth's climate has been evolving throughout history, but the past decade has witnessed an unparalleled surge in average temperatures, Stuart Brocklehurst, Vice-Chancellor for Business Engagement and Innovation and Director of Green Futures Solutions at the University of Exeter, said during the Baku Climate Week.
Brocklehurst pointed out that human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and altering natural landscapes, have disrupted the delicate balance of the Earth's carbon cycle. As a consequence, the greenhouse effect has intensified, he said.
The expert stressed that climate change poses the greatest challenge to humanity. "It is our generation's responsibility to address this critical issue," Brocklehurst concluded.
