Sabina Salmanova: Yekaterinburg incident is completely contrary to Azerbaijan-Russia partnership

The violence and illegal arrests carried out by Russian law enforcement agencies against Azerbaijanis in recent days completely contradict international legal norms, human rights, and the Azerbaijan-Russia strategic partnership, Sabina Salmanova, a member of the Milli Majlis and the working group on Azerbaijan-Russia inter-parliamentary relations, told Report.

According to Sabina Salmanova, the events that took place in Yekaterinburg on June 27 are not just a legal procedure, but an act of violence accompanied by gross violations of human rights:

"Entering people's homes without any court decision, subjecting them to torture and causing deaths is not law enforcement activity, but clearly orchestrated actions. I believe that such actions contradict the spirit of relations that have been formed between the two countries for years. We have established strategic partnership relations with Russia. However, these relations cannot be one-sided. If one side demonstrates illegal, violent, and criminal behavior against the citizens of the other, this is no longer partnership, but hypocrisy."

Sabina Salmanova underscored that the Azerbaijani state immediately reacted to the issue, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented a diplomatic note to the Russian side, and the Russian Chargé d'Affaires was summoned to the ministry to demand an explanation:

"We demand a serious investigation of this matter, holding accountable those involved in the crime, and an apology from the Russian authorities to the Azerbaijani state and people. The rights and security of Azerbaijani citizens, regardless of where they live, are a direct priority of the state. Azerbaijan has never been and will never be silent on these issues."
