President of Azerbaijan approves amendments to Migration Code

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has approved amendments to the Migration Code regulating the rules for releasing foreigners and stateless persons who are forcibly placed in detention centers for illegal migrants.

According to Report, under the new version of the code, the period of stay for foreigners and stateless persons in the center will be calculated from the moment of their admission in accordance with the decision on their placement in the facility.

The issue of extending the detention period or releasing such persons must be resolved before the expiration of the period specified in this decision.

The head of the center must notify the relevant executive authority verbally or in writing 1 working day before the expiration of a person's placement period in the center. Except for cases where the detention period is extended based on a court decision, the decision to extend the detention period or release foreigners and stateless persons will be made by the relevant executive authority.

Furthermore, the decision to extend the stay or release persons held in the center must be executed immediately upon its receipt by the center.
