The number of cars entering Icherisheher has decreased by half, Aytaj Alisultanli, a board member at the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Department, said at the Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.
According to her, the maximum vehicle capacity in Icherisheher was previously 600 cars, but this figure has now been reduced to 300.
Alisultanli explained that completely closing the area to vehicular traffic is impossible, as local residents and entrepreneurs also rely on cars.
"However, reducing the number of cars and introducing certain restrictions is one of the steps taken to ensure sustainable mobility," she said.
The board member added that Icherisheher occupies a limited area of just 22 hectares within its fortress walls, making any physical expansion of the territory impossible.
