Climate change is not only an environmental problem but also a serious challenge in terms of ensuring human rights, Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan, Gunay Rzayeva, said at the international Baku Forum of Ombudsmen on the topic "Climate Change and Human Rights: The Role of Ombudspersons and National Human Rights Institutions," Report informs via the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
She noted that in this regard, adaptation to climate change and mitigation of its consequences require a high level of coordination within communities.
The forum, which was also attended by staff members of the Ombudsman's office, will last until October 3.
On the last day of the event, participants will visit the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation.
