Ex-president of Latvia: Heydar Aliyev had special diplomatic skills

National leader Heydar Aliyev would be proud to see how Azerbaijan has been developing for 30 years, at the origins of which he himself stood, former President of Latvia Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga said at an event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, Report informs.

She noted that in order to form an independent republic, Azerbaijan, a country so rich in energy resources, needed special diplomatic skills that Heydar Aliyev possessed.

The ex-head of state recalled that Azerbaijan, like many countries, created an independent state after the end of the First World War. However, unfortunately, these states did not last long and became part of the USSR. She noted that Baku was a fuel supplier during the Second World War.
