Cyberattacks on Global Media Group were systematic and targeted

The cyberattacks against Global Media Group were both systematic and targeted. Their main objective was to influence Azerbaijan’s information space, manipulate public opinion, and undermine the country's national information sovereignty, Member of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Nagif Hamzayev told Report.

He noted that the goal of the attacks was not only to cause technical damage but also to undermine public trust in the resilience and reliability of the country's information environment:

"The duration and intensity of the attacks indicate that they were not spontaneous, but pre-planned actions. The issue of cyberattacks originating from Russian territory is especially sensitive in the context of bilateral relations. Addressing this issue requires a measured approach. Through diplomatic channels, it is possible to raise the matter at the official level. I also consider it expedient to create bilateral cybersecurity cooperation mechanisms and to establish joint research groups to identify the sources of the attacks."

According to Hamzayev, the cyberattacks against Azerbaijani media resources, in addition to posing an obvious threat to the country's information security system, may serve as a catalyst for identifying vulnerabilities and finding ways to eliminate them:

"Victory in the information confrontation requires comprehensive measures — at the technical, legal, organizational, and political levels. Strengthening the cyber resilience of national media, developing mechanisms to counter disinformation, and expanding international cooperation are key conditions for protecting the country's information space. The steps taken will help ensure the security not only of individual media organizations but of the entire national information environment. Azerbaijan is capable of effectively countering these challenges by applying innovative solutions, increasing its internal cybersecurity capacity, and fostering international collaboration."
