Bernardo Mariano: Governments worldwide need to be encouraged to invest in AI

The UN should actively engage with governments around the world to encourage them to increase investments in AI development, UN Chief Information Technology Officer Bernardo Mariano Joaquim Junior said at the XII Global Baku Forum, Report informs.

He noted that after decades of research, ChatGPT has emerged, and artificial intelligence is capable of solving complex tasks: "The public sector must be ready for the future, but along with opportunities, AI also brings challenges. The UN is working on creating a global digital agreement."

He added that AI has a powerful impact on society: "We need to convey its significance to everyone. Open source is the most reliable path for digital transformation. In AI, data, computing power, and algorithms play a key role. It's important how much countries invest in these three areas."
