Azerbaijani leader: "We proved that we have strength and will"

“As an independent country, we performed as an occupied country when participating in major sports competitions. We had to prove and have proved that we have the strength and will, and the skill and strength we show in the international sports arenas would show itself on the battlefield,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said while receiving participants of the 7th U23 European Wrestling Championships held in Bulgaria, Report informs.

“Of course, the example of our famous athletes, the example of Olympic, world and European champions should be a stimulus for young people. They should try to be like our famous athletes. I know that our well-known and outstanding athletes set an example both in their sports success and in their behavior,” the head of state said.

“I am very glad that the Azerbaijani sports community and our athletes, the vast majority of them, are and should be examples in life. In short, I highly assess the prospects of wrestling. I am confident that in the coming years we will have enough success in both the Olympic Games and the world championships,” he added.
