The city of Shusha has been declared the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2024, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture.
At the 12th Conference of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World held in Doha, Qatar, Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Adil Karimli presented the candidacy of Shusha, which is considered the cradle of Azerbaijan’s culture, to the ICESCO cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2024.
The city of Shusha was one of the important centers of the historical, cultural, social and political life of Azerbaijan, as well as one of the symbols of Islamic civilization.
2022 was declared the year of Shusha in Azerbaijan. Music festivals, poetry day, numerous local and international cultural events were held to support the cultural revival of Shusha. The International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) announced Shusha as the cultural capital of the Turkic world for 2023.

With the unanimous opinion of the conference participants, Shusha was declared the capital of the Islamic world for 2024.
