A new documentary chronicling the life and service of Nurlan Mustafayev, a captain in Azerbaijan’s special forces who was killed in the 2020 Patriotic War with Armenia, was released this week to commemorate what would have been his 35th birthday.
Titled “A Life Devoted to the Motherland,” the film was produced by members of the rural Golkand community in the Chambarak district of the Western Azerbaijan Community. It offers a portrait of Mustafayev’s upbringing, military career, and his role in Azerbaijan’s Patriotic War, which resulted in the liberation of several territories from Armenian occupation.
Mustafayev was killed on October 12, 2020, during fierce fighting in the town of Hadrut, and is buried at the Second Alley of Honor in Baku, a cemetery reserved for national heroes.
His mother, Rahila Ramazanova said she has dedicated her life to preserving her son’s legacy.
Mustafayev was posthumously awarded the Order of the Azerbaijani Flag by presidential decree, as well as several medals for his participation in key battles, including the liberation of Jabrayil, Fuzuli, and Kalbajar.
