Works of art and Christian shrines which suffered from the fire in Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, including a relic revered as the crown of thorns of Christ, will be transferred to the Louvre for storage, French Culture Minister Franck Riester said.
According to him, after the start of the fire, employees of the ministry and the Paris City Administration entered the cathedral building together with firefighters in order to save the most valuable works of art and religious relics from the fire. These items were delivered for temporary storage in the building of Paris City Administration, and now will be transferred for storage in the Louvre.
Notably, the fire erupted at the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral yesterday. The top part of the spire and the clock of the cathedral collapsed. The French Interior Ministry announced that it will be difficult to restore the church after the fire. Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron vowed to restore the cathedral to its previous condition. The fire that lasted for more than 10 hours was only extinguished after midnight. By preliminary data, the ignition was caused by the renovation works at the upper levels of the cathedral.
