The work being done today serves to prevent the global climate problem, stated Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), during a meeting at the headquarters of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, according to Report.

"I represent the only global intergovernmental process with the authority to solve the climate crisis. The work we see today - some slow and very complex processes - serves to prevent the climate problem faced by the entire world," he said.

The UN Climate Chief expressed his amazement at the energy, creativity, ideas, and commitment of the youth to the process. "I openly state that within the mandate of the Secretariat, I will do everything necessary to support the involvement of young people in the process," he affirmed.

According to Stiell, 198 countries must agree on new financial targets in the fight against climate change. "COP28 in Dubai has created high expectations for us, and we want to see certain parts of these expectations realized by 2030. We must move the process forward at COP29 to be held in Baku," he stressed.

Finance is the main topic this year, he said, adding that Azerbaijan's presidency is required to support and facilitate this, to reach an agreement on what the new financial target of 198 countries should look like. In parallel, the new phase of climate plans is what will develop this year and what will be presented next year in Brazil.

"These plans consist of nationally determined measures. We need to halve emissions by 2030. COP28, 29, and 30 collectively require determining where we are, correcting the course, and reaching these ambitious but necessary targets. Each of the parties has a responsibility to fulfill. As COP, we also have our own responsibility," Stiell concluded.
