The United States is providing financial and technical assistance to the Global Network of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) to accelerate climate change adaptation and support developing countries, Sue Biniaz, US State Department's Principal Deputy Special Envoy for Climate, said.
According to Report, speaking at the event "Progress in the Development and Implementation of National Adaptation Plans: Accelerating Adaptation Actions," Biniaz emphasized the importance of NAPs in guiding countries towards climate resilience. She stated, that NAPs form the foundation of countries' strategic steps towards climate resilience.
This process is crucial not only for planning but also for determining policy priorities, mobilizing resources, and implementing adaptation measures, she said.
According to Biniaz, over the past decade, NAPs have become one of the main pillars of global adaptation efforts.
Article 7 of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change also identifies NAPs as an essential tool for planning and implementing adaptation, she said.
Biniaz highlighted that the primary goal of the support is to accelerate the mobilization of financial resources for adaptation and ensure the transition from planning to implementation in developing countries.
In her speech, Biniaz stressed the importance of international cooperation in combating climate change and invited other countries to join this initiative.
