Expanding international cooperation is essential for the implementation of COP29 outcomes, Ambassador Hameed Ajibaiye, the Permanent Observer of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the UN, told Report.
“I have been to the city of Gabala and have seen that Azerbaijan has a rich nature. Today, Azerbaijan is among the countries that can serve as an example to the world for the transition to a green economy,” the ambassador said.
The diplomat spoke about the importance of the discussions themed “Baku Climate Coalition for SMEs green transition: Empowering women” organized by Azerbaijan within the framework of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) at the UN headquarters in New York.
He noted that the event's main goal is to evaluate the results of COP29 and discuss how to implement the Baku process. According to the ambassador, Azerbaijan's main goal within the framework of COP29 is to increase financing for green technologies and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
"This meeting focuses on global and regional cooperation issues. A presentation on the activities of the OIC was also made within the framework of the event. Previous COP events, COP28 and COP29, were held in OIC countries. Azerbaijan is also a member of the OIC and the main goal is to expand cooperation and ensure the implementation of those initiatives. It is especially important to ensure that small and medium-sized businesses, as well as women, benefit from these financial opportunities," Hameed Ajibaiye said.
