COP29 in Baku is going to be a turning point in fighting climate change, ICESCO Director General Salim bin Muhammed Al-Malik told Report.
"COP29 is a very, very important event. It's not just going to be attended by a number of people, it's going to be attended by the world at large. Climate change is a big issue. There are lots of problems that are happening around us in Azerbaijan and in many other parts of the world. Without anticipating the problems and finding a solution for the climate change, we're going to be facing huge issues with our planet," he said.
In this sense he stressed the importance of gathering all policy makers and heads of state from different parts of the world and the United Nations, all other international organizations that are caring about climate change.
"And this time it's going to be in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is spearheading many countries when it comes to climate change, preservation and protection," he said.
He noted that the Azerbaijan government, led by President Ilham Aliyev, is taking a very important action and putting this COP29 as one of the important events, not for Azerbaijan, but for the world at large.
"So I definitely think that we will come up with some recommendations that will benefit the world at large," he said.
Azerbaijan will host a COP29 session in November of this year.
