The pre-COP meeting in Baku has concluded, marking a significant milestone on the path to COP29. Key topics of discussion included adaptation, mitigation, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, Italy's special envoy for climate action, Francesco Corvaro, wrote on social media following the Pre-COP29 in Baku, Report informs.
"The debates were intense, reflecting the critical nature of these issues. While the topics are sensitive, there is a growing recognition among participants of the importance of reaching a consensus to enhance the credibility and sustainability of climate policies," he wrote.
"In this context, Italy has assumed a prominent role under Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29. In addition to the four primary priorities, the Azerbaijani leadership has introduced a fifth focus on transparency, appointing Italy as a Pair alongside Kazakhstan representing developing countries. This appointment signifies a historic opportunity for Italy, highlighting international acknowledgment of the country's commitment to a fair and pragmatic transition.
It is imperative to capitalize on this opportunity to enhance Italy's role on the global stage and to drive effective climate action collaboratively," he added.
