Azerbaijan hosts high-level talks on plastic waste management

Azerbaijan hosted a panel discussion titled Effective Plastic Waste Management for Climate Resilience: Understanding Challenges and Exploring Opportunities as part of COP29.

According to Report, the event, organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Azerbaijan Office of Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus, brought together government officials, representatives from international organizations, and local and international experts working in the field of plastic waste management and climate resilience.

During the event, Rauf Hajiyev, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, provided information about the problems caused by plastic waste and the measures taken in Azerbaijan to address this issue.

At the same time, speakers from various countries shared their initiatives and achievements in managing plastic waste in their respective nations.

The discussions focused on the role of cross-sectoral cooperation, financing support mechanisms, corporate social responsibility projects, and public-private partnerships (PPP) in plastic waste management.

Additionally, topics such as the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) approach, waste reduction, promotion of recycling, and application of circular economy models were deliberated.
