Use of plastic bags 48% down in Azerbaijan

The decision to charge a fee for plastic bags in supermarkets has reduced their use by 48% in no time, Advisor to the Ecology and Natural Resources Minister of Azerbaijan Rasim Sattarzadeh said at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, Report informs.
According to him, 2.5 months after the decision came into force, the use of plastic bags decreased by 48%.
“We, together with the State Service for Antimonopoly Regulation and Control of the Consumer Market under the Ministry of Economy, have repeatedly held meetings with supermarket owners. The work carried out was of great benefit,” he added.
