Shops in Azerbaijan to apply fee for polyethylene bags starting February 15

Shops in Azerbaijan will apply a fee for polyethylene bags starting tomorrow, Development of Trade Networks Public Union told Report.

A letter was addressed to the Public Union for the Development of Trade Networks by the Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control State Service, the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The letter reads that to reduce the harmful effects of polyethylene bag waste on the environment, following to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 25 dated February 2, 2021, starting from that date, polyethylene bags with a size of 15-50 microns, intended for collecting products in market checkouts, must be paid as a separate product type.

According to the information, in order to increase the efficiency of the measures aimed at solving environmental problems, ensure prompt resolution, as well as to improve the environmental safety starting on February 15, 2023, plastic bags will be provided to customers for a fee.
