Prado Troyjo: Micro-geopolitical events causing very interesting processes for Azerbaijan

Geopolitics is generating very interesting processes for the Caucasus region, and especially for Azerbaijan, Brazilian political economist and former president of the New Development Bank, Marcos Prado Troyjo, said during the first Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2025).

He noted that geopolitics has become so important to how countries and companies organize themselves that, just as economists divide their discipline into microeconomics and macroeconomics, they are now divided into two categories.

"It's time for us to understand that micro-geopolitical events are occurring in the world. And don't be fooled by the word 'micro.' They have a huge impact. There are also macro-geopolitical events. Of course, the most important micro-geopolitical factor today is the Trump administration in the United States. Micro-geopolitical events usually span short periods of time - four to five years. But when it comes to macro-geopolitical events, they are already in effect and will continue for 20 to 25 years, that is, for an entire generation. But the fact is that over the next 25 years-and this is especially important for a country like Azerbaijan - nine countries will experience such strong population growth that by the time the 25th Azerbaijan International Investment Forum is held in 2050, the global population will increase from the current 8 billion to 10 billion," he said.
