Azerbaijan, Tajikistan ink agreements on major investment projects

Tajikistan and Azerbaijan have concluded a number of cooperation agreements, Report informs referring to Tajik media citing a source in the Ministry of Economic Development of the republic.

The heads of the ministries of the two countries, Zavki Zavkizoda and Mikayil Jabbarov, signed agreements on major investment projects.

“They will contribute to the expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the countries,” the source noted.

Among the key areas are investment projects to launch an oil refinery in the Dangara SEZ, construction of a hydroelectric power plant in Tajikistan, increasing the production capacity of TALCO (Tajik Aluminum Company - ed.).

Among other things, according to information from the Ministry of Economic Development of Tajikistan, Azerbaijan will invest in the development of: the organization of agro-industrial clusters; export of primary aluminum, cryolite and aluminum fluoride from the republic; import of alumina for the needs of TALCO.

In addition, Baku is promoting an initiative to provide discounts to Dushanbe on rail transportation.

“For this purpose, a permanent bilateral working group has been created, which is taking specific measures to implement these projects,” the source noted.
